There’s a luxurious king-size bed, rocking chairs on the flower-filled front porch for morning coffee, and a fireplace and big-screen TV for couch cuddling. Outside, there’s a happy hour-ready deck inside the enclosed yard, where a sign reads, “No admittance except for party business.” A fully equipped modern kitchen, dining room with a locally hand-crafted table, and spacious bathroom and laundry facilities guarantee guests never have to leave the house unless they want to.
The 100-year-old house was entirely renovated by owners Emily Allen and Will Sease over the past year and a half, a labor of love. The couple has filled it with the calm of potted plants and hip touches like a hanging swing chair in the bedroom. Charming artwork features local oyster cans, a Chesapeake Bay map and the cottage’s namesake, the Sugartoad, throughout, including a brightly colored mural that swims around the kitchen’s walls.
Located just off Main Street in Mathews, the house is within walking distance of 11 restaurants, the art center, shops, the visitor center and, on some weekends, a festival. For additional details, visit sugartoadcottage.com.
