While clients come into Prestige Cabinets wanting a magazine-worthy room, function is ultimately equally important to the finished look.
Every client has different needs when it comes to how cabinetry impacts their lives on a day-to-day basis. Knowing this, owner Doug Hogue begins the first of many discussions to ensure that Prestige captures those needs to achieve a highly functional space.
In the case of a full custom cabinet and countertop project on a new construction home in a coveted section of Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg, the client wanted all the bells and whistles. The fact that the project was for a repeat client made it even more special to the Prestige crew. “For a lot of our projects, we spend around a year or more with the clients from original conception to final installation, so we build a professional, but also personal, relationship with them given the amount of time we spend together,” Hogue explains. “In this case, our relationship grew even more with them being repeat clients.”
The project was extensive, with almost two years elapsing between initial contact to full move-in completion. One unexpected challenge was the same one that the entire world faced: Covid 19. “This was one of the large projects we were working on during the initial days of the pandemic,” Hogue recalls. “So, there were a lot of on-the-fly decisions being made as we continued working in our manufacturing facility, but also onsite in the client’s home during such unprecedented times.”
Hogue and his staff at Prestige Cabinets are pros at helping potential clients who aren’t exactly sure what they want, a frequent occurrence. Generally, the process begins with meetings that allow clients to express what they know they do and do not want, with the latter equally important as the first.
“It’s rare someone comes in and knows exactly what they want,” says Hogue. “We have examples in our showroom that help, and of course, there are many resources online for additional inspiration. It’s always a collective process to get to the end.”
