Bob Harris, senior vice president of tourism for the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce pointed out that there aren’t nearly as many as there used to be. Today many hotels offer breakfast but they didn’t used to. Most local hotels were considered “limited service” because they didn’t have on-site restaurants. Then, hotels recommended nearby pancake houses to guests looking to fuel up before a busy day sightseeing.
Necessity, it seems, brought about the abundance. “With visitors, there’s a big need for places to get breakfast, so our lodging and restaurant industries have evolved since the late ‘80s and early ‘90s,” explained Harris. “But also, we do have some amazing pancake houses here.”
Then it’s not about a Williamsburg addiction to maple syrup? “Well, we all have that,” Harris laughed. “And it’s always a treat to start the day with a pancake breakfast.”
