“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” – Edgar Degas
The French painter Degas may not have been referring to our region when he made that observation, but the truth of it holds up, nonetheless. Art surrounds us, both in natural and manmade forms, yet another benefit to this beautiful region where we live.
For the legions of craft beer fans, art is as close as the can in their hand. One major distinction between mass-produced national beer brands and craft brews is that the names and labels on the latter are inventive endeavors meant to entice the drinker while also displaying the inspiration and artistry of dedicated brewery staff. As Forrest Gump might say, “Clever is as clever does.”
While those in the lower Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula benefit from the myriad art offerings at Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews, now those in the upper reaches of the Northern Neck will have an artistic focal point as well. A new arts center in Montross will offer juried art exhibitions, studio space, workshops and classes for young people, an exciting addition to an area expanding its creative footprint.
After all, good vibes are about making others see your artistry.
