Master Oyster Gardener Richard Siciliano calls on a student with a question in Oysters 101: Basics of Oyster Gardening
Join Dr. Richard Siciliano, Master Oyster Gardener, of TOGA: the Tidewater Oyster Gardeners Association, as he presents a free 90-minute seminar on the basics of starting an oyster garden at your waterfront home in the Northern Neck of Virginia.
The Oysters 101 class covers the basics of growing oysters, including every step necessary in becoming a Virginia oyster gardener: assessing your water’s suitability, acquiring seed oysters (spat) and supplies, applying for a Non-Commercial Virginia Oyster Garden Permit, choosing the right oyster float or cage, and harvesting oysters to restore the Bay or to consume. Classes are scheduled for the following dates and locations:
• April 12th (10:00-11:30 am), at Northumberland Public Library, 7204 Northumberland Hwy, Heathsville
• April 26th (10:00-11:30 am), at Camp Kekoka, 1083 Boys Camp Road, Kilmarnock
• May 14th (6:00-7:00 pm), at Mathews Land Conservancy, Community Building, 1039 Williams Wharf Road, Mathews
• May 17th (9:00-10:30 am), at Camp Kekoka, 1083 Boys Camp Road, Kilmarnock
• June 21st (10:00-11:30 am), at Northumberland Public Library, 7204 Northumberland Hwy, Heathsville
• July 19th (10:00-11:30 am), at Camp Kekoka, 1083 Boys Camp Road, Kilmarnock
