Friends of Dragon Run Spring Paddle Trips

Our Spring Paddle season runs from April 18th to May 22nd (excluding Wednesdays).  These trips provide the best method for seeing and learning about Dragon Run.  A nature guide will provide interesting facts about the habitat, flora, and fauna.  A crew of three other trained volunteers will assist you over beaver dams and ensure your safety.  We launch from our beautiful Big Island site near Church View.  Paddling downstream through a canopy of large bald cypress trees, we will see beaver and muskrat lodges, float over emerging water plants, and see many spring flowers.  Most paddlers will get to view the beautiful prothonotary warblers who start nesting in the Dragon swamp.  Paddlers will return upstream and experience a great view of our 1000 year old bald cypress before returning to the launch site.

The trips run about 3 hours.  This is FODR’s main source of fundraising and our best way to educate the public.  If you have never paddled the Dragon, you won’t be sorry you signed up for our paddle.  If you have paddled with us in the past, you know how amazing this place is and we welcome you back.  Even the paddle crew volunteers who paddle many times find each paddle exciting.  For more information, use this link.
