If you appreciate high quality seafood sourced mainly from local fishermen, Fat Tuna Grill won’t disappoint. You’ll find wild-caught North Carolina shrimp, along with local blue crabs and oysters at this casual family restaurant.
I recommend making a reservation when dining at Fat Tuna Grill since walk-in seating can lead to a wait during peak season. Once inside and seated, the ambiance, coupled with friendly and energetic servers, is family-friendly allowing children and adults to mingle throughout the dining room. For larger groups, Fat Tuna Grill can easily accommodate such parties in its spacious seating area.
I’ve had the pleasure of tasting an array of dishes on a few different occasions. For starters, the sushi appetizer is a simple but surprising choice with salmon or tuna served in a few different styles.
There are multiple options for fresh oysters–served in a half shell or cooked–which are never a bad way to start a meal. Try the oysters fried in Fat Tuna’s Po’ Boy sandwich, which is served with their own special bistro sauce.
The grilled octopus, which combines the light flavors of the octopus with refreshing greens and is topped with olive oil, is one of Fat Tuna’s specialty dishes.
For those who love to nibble and share, the steamed shrimp can be eaten with a friend, or standalone as a meal. And, with the restaurant serving wild-caught North Carolina shrimp, I’d venture to say it’s one of the top places in the area for seafood of this quality.
A dish sure to satisfy any seafood lover’s palate is The Steamship. It combines shrimp, clams, mussels, crab legs, potatoes, corn and Surry sausage all in a lemon Old Bay garlic sauce.
When it’s time for drinks, Fat Tuna offers a full bar featuring 24 draft beers on tap, over 100 custom drinks and a wine list of more than 40 wines. For the after-work crowd, Fat Tuna’s Happy Hour runs from 2 to 6pm Monday thru Friday featuring specials and discounts.
Whether you’re a casual lover of good seafood, or a connoisseur of fresh caught fare, you’ll find entrées, sandwiches and finger foods to enjoy over good drinks at Fat Tuna Grill.
