If you’re a qualifying essential employee, Prestige Cabinets is looking to give you a complete kitchen renovation.
One eligible healthcare worker will be selected from Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center or Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg, including nurses, environmental service workers and lab technicians.
The program, called Cabinets for a Cause, aims to honor the hard work and sacrifice displayed by essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Doug and Terrah Hogue, owners of Prestige Cabinets, a custom cabinet manufacturing company in Toano, came up with the idea.
“We really had a desire to figure out some way to give back a little bit to the community that’s brought us so much over the years,” Hogue said. “So, we geared this specifically towards health care workers on the front line.”
Prestige Cabinets is partnering with Ferguson Enterprises, Kathryn Salyer Design & Renovation, Signature Stone, Williamsburg Wicker as well as others to complete the turn-key project.
“Ferguson is going to be providing the appliance package for the project. The designer that is going to be on board is Kathryn Salyer of Kathryn Salyer Design & Renovation. She’s going to come in on the front end and help pull all the selections together and then towards the end to help with the final touches. Signature Stone is going to be providing stone countertops and Williamsburg Wicker is going to be providing some type of furnishing and/or fixtures for the project... And of course, we will do all of the cabinetry.”
Hogue said the strategic partnerships is about showing the recipient a commitment to quality and community.
“We’re going to go in there with a team of people. It’s more than just cabinets, we’re potentially going to do new flooring, new countertops, new appliances, maybe new light fixtures, painting, etc. So, it’s a complete kitchen makeover for this person—and totally, totally free,” he said.
Tyler Booth, showroom manager at Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery is excited about the opportunity to collaborate and give back. “During this time more than ever, these first responders are who we owe it all to. They keep our communities safe and harm free.… it is ‘win’ all across the boards,” Booth said.
Kathryn Salyer, owner of Kathryn Salyer Design & Renovation has known and worked with the Hogues for nearly two decades and works regularly with the other partners.
“Our styles fit together very well,” she said. “We all work together on a daily basis. We’re a tight knit group.”
Hogue says nominations will run through the month of July followed by a review period by which the winner is selected. Nominations can be made on the Prestige Cabinets website.
“You’d give a description of why this nominee is deserving of such a project. At the end of that four-week period, we would review all the different submissions and pick out who we think might be the most deserving person. It will certainly be a hard decision, but one we will be very excited to make!” Hogue said.
The project would likely kick off in October with a completion mid- to late-November.
“The goal is for this recipient to have a nice, fresh new kitchen just before the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Hogue.
He plans to continue Cabinets for a Cause into the foreseeable future, opening nominations to different service industries each year.
“We’re thinking it would change each year to where maybe one year it would be geared towards police officers, fire firefighters, EMTs or teachers, different people who sacrifice a lot every day that at times go unnoticed” he said.
