Montross First Friday
Part coffeehouse, part bistro and part art gallery, the Art of Coffee opened its doors in 2006 serving a full breakfast, lunch, tapas-style seafood dinners on First Friday evenings and three five-course wine pairing dinners every year.
For years, the Art of Coffee offered live music in the coffeehouse on Friday evenings as part of Montross First Fridays, a monthly event featuring live music, an art walk, vendors, wine and beer. Lately, their music scene is more event and holiday-driven with musicians being brought in for holidays such as Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day, among others.
“We’re blessed in this area to have fantastic musicians,” says owner Terry Cosgrove. “Some say you just need to drive down gravel roads to find them.” He’s quick to point out that their favorite band at the coffeehouse is Blackthorn Shillelagh, a group made up of stellar musicians, all of whom play in various other bands but seem to hit full stride when they regroup for
St. Patrick’s season. Another favorite is Josh Grigsby & County Line, one of Virginia’s premier bluegrass bands whom he and his staff now call friends. Cosgrove mentions the duo of Rob and Kelly Wright, David Smith, the Sierra Band and the Hard to Tell Band as perennial favorites.
