Established in 2014, NN Burger serves up gourmet burgers, salads, sandwiches, milkshakes, craft beer and cocktails in a polished fast casual atmosphere. For those who can tear themselves away from the digital photo booth, there’s live music six days a week. With a focus on singer-songwriters, NN Burger hosts one or two musicians Tuesdays through Sundays from noon to 3pm and Fridays through Sundays from 6-9pm.
Performance director/artist Jonathan Brown brings in talent from all over Virginia but cites Tyler Meacham’s acoustic pop as a Tappahannock favorite who’s constantly on tour. “She’s a high- energy vocal powerhouse,” he says. “Scary casual perfection.” A favorite at both locations is Richmond songwriter Jonathan Facka, who uses a complex finger-picking style to enhance his folk songs. Brown describes him as a huge personality and a joy to be around. Known as the Hopewell Troubador, Anthony Farris scores high with regular sets in Kilmarnock. With over three hours of original material spanning gospel, folk, country and world music and impressive acoustic guitar proficiency, his sets are best described as a spiritual experience.
Coming up this fall is Jaylin Brown, a soloist with the Pharrell Williams Gospel Choir, who will play Tappahannock on September 27, and October 18, from 6-9pm.
