Begun in 2001 as a little country store about a mile outside of the town limits, Something Different has its roots in barbecue. Dubbing themselves a southern Americana restaurant, they’ve developed into a lot more over the years. Everything that they serve is made from scratch in-house, from ice creams to peanuts, and features an eclectic array of goodies including house-roasted coffee, their own sauces, dressings and seasoning blends.
“Our music schedule had gotten pretty jammed and some of our customers weren’t too thrilled with having live music every Friday night,” explains owner Sarah Kimble. “So now we decided to drop back to mostly twice a month, as it was before.” Most of the bands they bring in focus on covers ranging from the ’80s to the present, with several that specialize in upbeat blues and classic R&B, as well as several bands that play mostly original material.
As for favorites, Kimble lists Fillmore —who play there September 20–along with the Michael Clark Band, JNM, Mercy Creek, the Zack Salsberry Trio, In Laymen Terms, Zen and Mojo, as just a few that staff and customers love to hear. Each, she says, brings something different to her customers while enjoying the feedback from the crowd that winds up making a great night for all.
