On Saturday, Sept. 10, 131 dogs and more than 250 humans descended upon Chickahominy Riverfront Park for Drool in the Pool 2016, a five-hour event that gave dogs a chance to beat the heat by swimming in the pool.
This year’s attendance of 131 dogs shatters previous attendance records for the event, which was most recently held in 2014 after last year’s event was canceled because of inclement weather. Drool in the Pool 2014 held the previous attendance record for the event with 70 dogs in attendance.
Thanks to the help of Heritage Humane Society Auxiliary members, WMBG radio personality Philip Newbery, and all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to help, Heritage Humane Society raised more than $2,000 from Drool in the Pool.
Heritage Humane Society also thanked James City County Parks and Recreation for their continued partnership. Because of their support, Heritage Humane Society is able to make Drool in the Pool possible for dog lovers in the Historic Triangle.
“We at Heritage Humane Society are blown away by the community’s support for Drool in the Pool,” Heritage Humane Society Executive Director Kimberly Laska said. “Drool in the Pool brings dog lovers in the community together for an affordable day of fun, which is hard to find these days. It was an awesome sight to see all those dogs and their owners enjoying themselves at the pool. We hope to build on the success of this year’s event and make next year even better.”
