Williamsburg community partners teamed up with The Williamsburg Winery to provide lunch for medical teams.
When Tracy Shackelford and Harold Philipsen of Northwestern Mutual, in partnership with The Williamsburg Winery, put a call out to the community to help feed hospital workers in Williamsburg, the community did more than just rally.
They came out in full force.
In a matter of days, community members contributed more than $4,000 to the cause, allowing the team to not only purchase 260 lunches for members of the medical teams Friday, April 3, 2020 at Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg and Sentara Regional Medical Center Williamsburg, but to also come back and bring more meals in the future.
“This idea came out of a friend of mine who did something similar in Richmond, Virginia, and I thought if they could do it there, we can do it here,” said Shackelford. “Today, we were able to show our medical workers support from the community for everything they are doing for us, and for what they will have to do for us in the future.”
The Gabriel Archer Tavern at The Williamsburg Winery provided the food – their signature sandwiches of Turkey & Brie, Roast Beef & Gouda and Caprese, paired with chips and a cookie – for $8 per meal, a special price just for this initiative.
“We are trying to help these guys out and give them a little break from the cafeteria,” said The Williamsburg Winery’s Chef David McClure. “This just goes to show how many people look out for each other in this community.”
The Williamsburg Winery continues to collect support to continue feeding hospital and medical workers throughout the region. Contributions can be made online at williamsburgwinery.com under the SHOP tab.
